Job summary

Wiltshire Council seeks a solicitor or barrister to join the Adult Social Care legal team for a 12-month maternity cover. The role focuses on Court of Protection proceedings, Mental Capacity Act matters and safeguarding issues, advising on wide adult social care law to support vulnerable adults.

Hybrid working is available; the post is primarily based at County Hall, Trowbridge, with occasional court attendance. Salary ranges from £41,177 to £43,149 (inclusive of 15% market supplement).

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor or barrister with up to three years post-qualification experience.
• Strong analytical, research and communication skills are essential.
• Flexibility to work in a hybrid/traditional office setting and support a maternity cover role.

Responsibilities

• Advise on Court of Protection proceedings, Mental Capacity Act matters, safeguarding issues and wider adult social care law.
• Support vulnerable adults and collaborate with services and external partners.
• Attend court hearings and manage own caseload while being mentored by experienced lawyers.
