Job description

You will need to login before you can apply for a job.

We are looking for a Junior Software Developer to join our small, but perfectly formed technical team.

As part of the XCG technical team you will be responsible for developing the applications and processing systems that allow our analysts access to billions of documents in our storage system, all of which is managed in our own datacenter space. Our tooling is based around the Elastic suite of products, S3 compatible storage, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Python. Our applications are hosted primarily on virtual machines and Docker containers.

You will be given responsibility early in your career with XCG but you will also be guided and mentored by senior colleagues, who between them have dozens of years experience in UK government, intelligence and the military.

Python knowledge - you should be comfortable developing basic programs. A thirst for knowledge and a desire to improve are important than your current coding ability.

Familiarity with Linux i.e. you’ve used it as your daily work/study environment.

An interest in cyber intelligence and the challenges that organisations face in the 21st century.

Technical knowledge - if you are a technical generalist with little bits of knowledge in multiple areas then so much the better.

You must have the right to work in the UK.

What we offer:

A competitive salary - starting range 27,000 to 32,000 dependent upon experience.

25days + 8 bank holidays leave per annum.

A career pathway within XCG.

Remote work with access to our Gloucestershire office if required.

Our interview process is straightforward and normally involves two remote sessions, over Zoom or Microsoft Teams. The first is typically about 30 minutes long and is a general chat so you can meet us (a mix of directors, senior developers and the Head of Technology) and we can learn a little more about you. Should we both decide we may be a good fit for each other then we schedule a second session which is approximately two hours (with breaks if required). During this session we may test your technical knowledge and coding level and we’ll explore your experience and interests. Any adjustments that you may require can be discussed before any interview is scheduled.

Please send your CV and covering letter (no more than two sides of A4) to the Head of Technology (greg.s@xcybergroup.com ). In your covering letter please let us know you what attracts you to a role at XCG and what skills you would bring.

We will be reviewing applications and may close the job early, so please apply as soon as possible.
