Job summary

CATL is seeking a commissioning engineer for large-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects. The role involves end-to-end commissioning, site testing, troubleshooting, and collaboration with R&D, Quality, and PM teams across multiple countries.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical/Energy engineering, 1–3 years (engineer) or 5+ years (manager) experience in energy projects, and fluency in English with Mandarin proficiency.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years (Engineer), 5 yrs+ (Manager) experience in electrical equipment commissioning or energy projects.

Responsibilities

• Participate in commissioning, project delivery, and SAT for large-scale BESS projects.
• Perform commissioning, troubleshooting, and defect resolution for battery containers/cabinets (FSS, HVAC/TMS, DC/AC circuits, BMS).
• Assist with commissioning of PCS and EMS; basic operating principles understood.
• Support on-site issue analysis, fault diagnosis, corrective actions, and closure with project team.
• Track commissioning issues to closure and ensure schedule adherence.
• Collaborate with R&D, Quality, After-Sales, PM to resolve site issues efficiently.
• Comply with EHS requirements and safe execution of commissioning activities.
• Travel extensively for long-term assignments at project sites overseas (Europe and beyond).
• Provide customer training on system operation, maintenance, and product usage.
• Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and topology drawings; familiarity with BESS grid-connection processes.

Responsibilities

Participate in the commissioning, project delivery, and acceptance of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

Perform commissioning, troubleshooting, and defect resolution for battery containers/cabinets, including:

• Fire Suppression System (FSS)
• Liquid Cooling System (HVAC/TMS)
• DC Circuits (up to 1500V DC)
• Auxiliary AC Circuits (220V/400V AC)
• BMS Communication Systems

Assist with the commissioning of PCS (Power Conversion System) and EMS (Energy Management System), with a basic understanding of their operating principles.

Support on-site issue analysis, fault diagnosis, corrective actions, and issue closure together with the project team.

Participate in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), grid connection testing, and project acceptance activities.

Support customer training on system operation, maintenance, and product usage.

Track commissioning issues through to closure and ensure projects are delivered according to schedule.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, After-Sales Service, Project Management, etc.) to resolve site issues efficiently.

Comply with EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) requirements and ensure safe execution of all commissioning activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or above.

Preferred majors include Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or related disciplines.

1-3 years (Engineer), 5 yrs+ (Manager) of experience in electrical equipment commissioning, energy projects, or related industries.

Familiarity with one or more of the following areas:

• Basic knowledge of primary and secondary electrical systems;
• Energy storage systems, photovoltaic (PV) systems, and power systems;
• Basic principles of BMS, PCS, and EMS;
• Industrial communication protocols such as CAN and Modbus RTU/TCP;
• Communication networks and fieldbus technologies.

Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and communication topology drawings.

Knowledge of BESS grid-connection processes, substation equipment, and power plant delivery procedures is preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other standard office software.

Strong analytical, communication, coordination, and teamwork skills.

Fluent in English for daily work and on-site communication; Mandarin Chinese proficiency is required.

Willingness to travel extensively and undertake long-term assignments at project sites overseas, including Europe and other international locations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), photovoltaic (PV), or wind power projects.

Low-voltage and/or high-voltage electrical certification, or equivalent electrical qualifications.

Experience working on international projects or in a multicultural environment.

Additional language skills such as German, Spanish, or French are an advantage.
