We are seeking a motivated, compassionate Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for an Emergency Department nurse who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care whilst developing their clinical leadership skills.

As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will provide day-to-day clinical and operational leadership within the department, supporting the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care. You will help coordinate departmental activity, promote patient flow, and ensure high standards of nursing practice.

You will act as a visible clinical role model, supporting, supervising, and developing nursing staff and students, while fostering a culture of learning, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will provide clinical and operational leadership within the Emergency Department, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate patient care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the day-to-day running of the department and supporting patient flow.
  • Acting as a senior clinical role model, delivering high standards of emergency nursing care.
  • Providing leadership, supervision, and support to registered nurses, nursing associates, healthcare support workers, and students.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients with a wide range of urgent and emergency healthcare needs.
  • Supporting the management of deteriorating and critically ill patients through timely assessment and escalation.
  • Promoting evidence-based practice and ensuring compliance with national and local policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Contributing to workforce management, including staff deployment, mentoring, teaching, and appraisal processes.
  • Leading on quality improvement, clinical governance, patient safety, and incident learning initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes.
  • Supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in achieving departmental objectives, operational targets, and service development projects.
