Job summary

Castle Employment Group is recruiting for a Junior Project Engineer in the Newcastle area to join an established engineering business. You will support the design, coordination and delivery of mechanical projects, gaining hands-on experience across the full lifecycle from concept to dispatch.

You will develop 3D CAD skills, apply mechanical engineering principles and work closely with customers and internal teams to meet project goals. Monday–Friday, with strong development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant completed engineering apprenticeship.
• Proven ability with 3D CAD software and mechanical drawings.
• Ability to interpret customer requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Understanding of project costs, budgets and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

• Produce and review 3D CAD drawings, calculations and documentation.
• Support projects from concept through procurement, production and dispatch.
• Collaborate with team to interpret requirements and develop solutions.
• Attend meetings and communicate with customers and internal teams.
• Check drawings for accuracy, tolerances and compliance.
• Assist with planning, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines.
• Develop understanding of project costs and budgets.
• Follow quality, health, safety and environmental procedures.

What will you be doing?

As a Junior Project Engineer, you'll work alongside the engineering team to support the design, coordination and delivery of mechanical engineering projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Producing and reviewing 3D CAD drawings, engineering calculations and technical documentation.
• Supporting engineering projects from initial concept through to procurement, production and final dispatch.
• Working with colleagues to interpret customer requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Attending project meetings and communicating with customers and internal teams.
• Checking technical drawings and designs for accuracy, tolerances and compliance with project requirements.
• Supporting project planning, prioritizing tasks and helping ensure deadlines are achieved.
• Developing an understanding of project costs, budgets and contractual requirements.
• Following engineering quality, health, safety and environmental procedures.

What are we looking for?

We're keen to hear from Mechanical Engineering Graduates, Apprentice-trained Engineers and Junior Engineers who are looking to develop their careers within project engineering.

You’ll ideally bring:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant completed engineering apprenticeship.
• Practical knowledge of 3D CAD software.
• An understanding of mechanical engineering principles and technical drawings.
• The ability to approach engineering challenges logically and solve problems.
• Good communication skills and an interest in working with both customers and engineering colleagues.
• A willingness to develop your technical and project management knowledge.

Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or engineering hand calculations would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
