NHS Jobs is seeking a junior oncology fellow to join the team at The Christie. The appointee will provide medical input to patients admitted to acute assessment and inpatient wards, and will attend some outpatient clinics and specialist treatment units.

The post involves continuing professional development and supervision throughout the placement. Weekend clinical activities are scheduled in advance, with no on-call rota required.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of resident doctors to provide medical input to patients admitted to acute assessment and inpatient wards at The Christie.
• Attend some outpatient clinics and specialist treatment units as part of the role.
• Contribute to governance, risk management, portfolio management and annual appraisal activities as per GMC Good Medical Practice.
• Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) with time and financial support from the Trust.

Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis

post forms part of a team of resident doctors who manage patients under the supervision of and with the support of senior oncology specialist teams. The appointee will be based at The Christie and will provide medical input to patients admitted to the acute assessment and inpatient wards at The Christie. There will also be requirement to attend some outpatient clinics and specialist treatment units.The post holder will be required to continue their own self-development as highlighted in the GMCs Good Medical Practice framework which includes attending mandatory educational sessions organized by the clinical and educational directorates, governance meetings, partaking in risk management, portfolio management, annual appraisal. There will be opportunities to partake in quality improvement, research and leadership activities. All prospective junior oncology fellows will be appointed a clinical/educational supervisor who will support them during their work.

Continuing Professional Development

The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Role planning

Weekend working will consist of clinical activities that are scheduled in advance and reviewed where required as work schedules are reviewed, taking account of service needs.

On call Commitments

This role does not require participation in the on-call rota.
