Junior Mechanical Engineer (Graduate level) – HVAC Systems

Home-based | Location Midlands or Northwest preferred | UK travel (approx. 2 days / week)

The Role

As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, working within the Consulting Engineer team, you will provide technical and design support to building services consultants, contractors, and our sales team. You’ll work closely with clients including consultants, architects, and contractors, delivering engineering calculations, modelling, and technical guidance to develop the most appropriate ventilation strategies.

Your day-to-day work will include dynamic thermal modelling using our in-house software (4DFlo), preparing design proposals and quotations, and communicating technical information internally and externally. You’ll also support the sales team at client meetings, predominantly across the Midlands and North.

Training will be given to ensure the individual has a sound understanding of the respective product ranges, system designs and selections, current building regulations and product installation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake dynamic thermal modelling to assess building overheating
  • Carry out CO₂ concentration calculations to determine airflow rates for indoor air quality targets
  • Produce comprehensive design proposals and technical submissions
  • Review project drawings to identify equipment requirements
  • Create and update quotations and process new orders for handover to finance and projects teams
  • Attend design and pre-contract meetings with the sales team to provide technical support
  • Deliver technical CPDs on natural and hybrid ventilation and associated products
  • Liaise with sales and projects teams following order placement
  • Support future R&D activities, including control software programming, software and product development, and product testing
About You
  • Graduate-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Interest in HVAC systems, ventilation, and sustainability
  • Some understanding of HVAC, thermal and fluid dynamics, and ventilation principles (training provided)
  • Experience in formal technical writing (e.g. reports, responses to technical queries)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; VBA or other coding experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with ModelIT, Apache, Vista Pro, or MacroFlo (desirable)
  • Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with customers and delivering presentations
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
