This role is ideal for someone with a sound understanding of NHS Management Accounts who wants to develop their practical skills. It’s a varied post requiring strong analytical ability, adaptability, and confidence in supporting operational divisions.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the monthly reporting cycle, ensuring accurate financial reporting for designated areas.
  • Manage accruals, prepayments, and process ledger adjustments, maintaining a full audit trail.
  • Prepare and support the production of month‑end management accounts and annual budgets.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, ensuring statutory obligations are met.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Divisional and Departmental Managers, positioning the Finance Department as a trusted advisory service.
  • Support daily systems administration, planning workload to meet routine, weekly, and monthly tasks accurately and on schedule.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of team processes and financial management tools.
  • Prepare and deliver budget statements, reporting cost pressures and financial position to Finance Business Partners and Senior Management Accountants.
  • Identify monthly cost pressures, report them to the Finance Business Partner, and recommend solutions to remain within control totals.
  • Attend and organise monthly meetings with Divisional Managers to review financial position, providing advice and recommendations on budget utilisation and decision‑making support.
  • Deliver financial training sessions for newly appointed Budget Holders and support wider finance team delivery.
  • Use tools such as TRAC for establishment control, ensuring budgets reconcile accurately at all times.
  • Maintain compliance with Trust Standing Financial Instructions and other internal policies.
  • Provide performance monitoring information, highlighting key cost pressures and other issues to senior clinical and financial leaders.
Qualifications
  • Undertaking the AAT qualification.
  • Previous finance experience, including NHS finance if possible.
  • Stakeholder management skills, demonstrated through relationship‑building with divisional leads, budget holders, Finance Business Partners, and Senior Management Accountants.
  • Excellent Excel skills, including pivot table analysis, formula usage, and clear presentation of financial information to a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, evidenced by a well‑crafted application form and personal statement relevant to the JD and Person Specification.
  • Evidence of strong ethical behaviours and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Contract and Pay

Band 4 – £27,485 to £30,162 a year per annum. Permanent, full-time, flexible working, home or remote working, compressed hours, term time hours.
