Job summary

News UK is seeking a Finance Manager – CapEx to join the Peterborough Management Accounting team and report to the Senior Finance Manager Shared Costs. You will ensure CapEx is recorded correctly and manage the Capex cash position for Publishing and Broadcasting.

You will collaborate with onshore and offshore finance teams, review deliverables and support SOX controls and budget/forecast processes with a focus on efficiency and improvement.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification or equivalent.
• Clear communications skills to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Willingness to learn accounting rules around capitalisation and fixed assets.

Responsibilities

Your role:

As Finance Manager – CapEx your role will be an essential part of the Peterborough Management Accounting team, reporting into the Senior Finance Manager Shared Costs.

You will be responsible for the CapEx process ensuring that CapEx is recorded correctly and reporting the total CapEx Cash position for Publishing and Broadcasting to the Senior Finance Manager.

You will work closely with the onshore and offshore finance teams, ensuring clear specifications for their work and reviewing deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

• Regular Capex review with stakeholders across Facilities, Broadcasting and Technology, ensuring robust control over cash spend and forecasting
• Working closely with stakeholders across the business to review and challenge investment board forms, ensuring that the meet technical accounting requirements and assessing return on investment
• Oversight of monthly & weekly Capex reporting that is prepared by the offshore team to ensure stakeholders have timely information
• Owning Sox controls processes for Capex and ensuring that Capex approvals policy is followed
• Review of CapEx Assets Under Construction Reconciliations, ensuring Offshore team are capitalising on a timely basis
• Assisting with adhoc Capex analysis
• Identifying opportunities for improvement and efficiencies within reporting, particularly leveraging AI capabilities

Day to day you will:

• Review weekly and month end submissions for Capex, communicating any key under or overspends to the stakeholders and Senior FM as required
• Be across project trackers and spend profiles, that are prepared by the offshore team, to ensure any over/under spends on cash are communicated to the Senior Finance Manager on a timely basis.
• Prepare Cash budgets and forecasts based on conversations with stakeholders, across Facilities, Technology and Broadcasting to ensure numbers submitted are as accurate as possible.
• Provide monthly commentary on Capex to inform Senior Finance Manager and stakeholders of cash positions and any risk areas
• Provide commentary in the quarterly conference call deck on movements and trends in the quarter
• Sign off on balance sheet reconciliations and submit in Blackline system
• Understand all Capex Sox and approvals processes to ensure they are followed; challenge and highlight to the Senior Finance Manager if any instances where they are not being followed.
• Proactively identify risks and opportunities within Capex & Technology OpEx/CapEx
• Being main point of contact for CapEx audit requests, ensuring supporting documentation is provided by Genpact
• Management of Quarterly and Year End Capex cash position, ensuring communication to Senior Finance Manager, especially in the run up to year end to ensure no surprises

What we're looking for from you:

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or equivalent
• Effective and clear communications skills, to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Capable of analysing data and transforming it into insights for the HOF Technology
• A willingness to learn and understand the accounting rules around capitalisation and accounting for Fixed Assets.
• Drive and enthusiasm to develop the role and realise process efficiency across Tech and CapEx
• Capable of flexibility and working with ambiguity, willing to take initiative without guidance
• Confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders on their budgets/forecasts and month end numbers.
