Job summary

Octagon Group in Coventry is seeking a hands-on Junior Electronics Engineer to join its R&D team. You will work on innovative electronic measurement products, covering PCB design, embedded electronics, firmware and new product development in Coventry.

The role involves designing embedded circuits, building prototypes, and supporting production. You will gain experience across testing, debugging, EMC prep and technical documentation in a fast-paced, specialist environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in PCB design from schematic to layout.
• Familiarity with KiCad or Altium Designer.
• Embedded C experience with STM32 and/or PIC microcontrollers.
• Experience across product development lifecycle is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design embedded electronic circuits, including schematics, component selection and PCB layout.
• Build and test prototypes, carrying out PCB bring-up and fault-finding using test equipment.
• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for STM32 and/or PIC microcontrollers.
• SMD soldering, PCB modifications and board-level debugging.
• Support verification, engineering trials and new product introduction.
• Assist with EMC pre-compliance testing and resolving design issues.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and contribute to engineering documentation.

Junior Electronics Engineer

Location: Coventry

Salary: £35,000 – £38,000

A specialist technology business is looking for a Junior Electronics Engineer to join its R&D team in Coventry, working on innovative electronic measurement products used by customers worldwide.

This is a hands‑on Junior Electronics Engineer position covering PCB design, embedded electronics, firmware and new product development. You’ll be involved throughout the product lifecycle, from circuit design and prototyping through to testing, debugging, production and product support.

The role

• Design embedded electronic circuits, including schematics, component selection and PCB layout using KiCad and/or Altium.
• Build and test prototypes, carrying out PCB bring‑up and fault‑finding using oscilloscopes, signal generators and multimeters.
• Develop and maintain embedded C firmware for STM32 and/or PIC microcontrollers.
• Carry out SMD soldering, PCB modifications and practical board‑level debugging.
• Support verification, engineering trials and new product introduction.
• Assist with EMC pre‑compliance testing and resolving design issues.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and contribute to engineering documentation.

What we’re looking for

• Practical PCB design experience, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Experience with KiCad and/or Altium Designer.
• Embedded C experience with STM32 and/or PIC.
• Confidence using standard electronics test equipment.
• Practical soldering and SMD rework skills.
• Experience across some stages of the product development lifecycle.
• A degree, HND, HNC or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related field.

Experience with EMC testing, 3D CAD, sensors, instrumentation or signal processing would be advantageous.
