We are looking for a Junior Design and Manufacturing Engineer to join Clinical Engineering Innovation (CEI), supporting the development of medical devices and innovative healthcare technologies, including custom medical devices and assistive technology, for patients and clinical teams. You will combine hands-on engineering, design and manufacturing skills to help design, prototype, manufacture, modify and test innovative solutions, working closely with patients, clinicians and other healthcare scientists.
Candidates who are invited to interview will be asked to prepare a 10-minute presentation about an item they have previously designed and manufactured that demonstrates their practical engineering skills. Where possible, candidates are encouraged to bring the item to the interview. If this is not practical, for example due to its size or availability, photographs may be included in the presentation instead.
The role will provide practical engineering support across the design, development and manufacture of medical devices and healthcare technologies. You will use CAD, prototyping, additive and conventional manufacturing, assembly and testing to develop and modify devices, working from initial requirements through to manufacture and evaluation.
You will work closely with patients, clinicians, engineers and healthcare scientists to understand user needs and develop safe, practical solutions. The role also involves taking day-today responsibility for running our workshop, maintaining accurate technical and quality documentation, and working within established quality and regulatory processes.
We are looking for someone with strong practical engineering and problem-solving skills, who is comfortable working hands-on, can manage their own work within an agreed scope, and is comfortable working collaboratively across clinical and engineering environments.
