A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

Overview

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust (UHMB) provides health care in a stunning area of the UK. We cover large portions of the Lake District (UNESCO world heritage site), Lune Valley, Forest of Bowland (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Education is important in the city, the Royal Lancaster Grammar School is consistently voted one of the top state grammar schools in the country and Lancaster University, which has its own medical school was voted Sunday Times University of the year 2018. Medical students from the University Of Lancaster attend all sites for clinical experience.

Responsibilities
  • Day to day care of patients on the ante natal and post-natal wards including a daily ward round of all gynaecology and antenatal patients on their firm, and document electronically.
  • At weekends and Bank Holidays every gynaecology and antenatal patient in the hospital must be seen, and a record made.
  • The admission and treatment of both routine and emergency cases, and the preparation of patients for theatre as well as post-operative care.
  • Maintenance of patient’s records including preparation of discharge documentation using the Trust’s Electronic patient record.
  • Involvement in face-to-face handover of care which takes place at every change of shift, with communication of details about all patients.
  • Participation in Consultant-led ward rounds undertaken by the Obstetric & Gynaecology Team.
  • Seeing patients in clinics under Consultant supervision.
  • Participation in a 8 doctor full shift system on the 1st on call rota, including blocks of nights.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
