Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in the UK is inviting applications for a Junior Clinical Fellow role in the Department of Cystic Fibrosis. This 6-month fixed-term contract offers extensive training in Respiratory Medicine, focusing on Cystic Fibrosis management. Qualifications

  • Undertake ward duties, supporting patient care on the Cystic Fibrosis Unit.
  • Gain extensive training in all aspects of the management of Cystic Fibrosis.
  • Participate in research and teaching initiatives.

This is a fantastic opportunity for those desiring extensive experience in Respiratory Medicine, specifically Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis & Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia at a large tertiary Respiratory Centre.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake ward duties, supporting patient care on the Cystic Fibrosis Unit. The duties of the post will be tailored to the individual's needs, taking into consideration the post holder's prior experience and the service elements of the role.

Job responsibilities

This post will provide the opportunity for the successful candidate to work in the tertiary Respiratory Centre. The successful candidate will gain extensive training in all aspects of the management of Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis & Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD).

This appointment will be based at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, St. James' University Hospital, Leeds, one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the UK, serving a population of over 3 million. The department delivers specialist respiratory services including Cystic Fibrosis, severe asthma, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, tuberculosis, COPD, and PCD. The lung cancer service is one of the largest in the UK and is home to the Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial. We offer bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, thoracoscopy and long‑term pleural drainage. There is a well‑established programme in collaboration with radiology to provide pleural ultrasound certification.

The department consists of 3 inpatient wards and a 12 bed respiratory care unit offering non‑invasive ventilation. There is a separate ward for the care of people with cystic fibrosis.

Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Eligibility and Fitness to Practice
  • Be eligible for full registration with and hold a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Advanced life support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council or equivalent by intended start date
  • Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English or achieved IELTS or OET
  • Is up to date & fit to practise safely & is aware of own training needs
Additional Criteria
  • Demonstrable interest in & understanding of Cystic Fibrosis
Experience
  • 48 months' experience after full GMC registration or equivalent
  • Evidence of achievement of IMT competencies in Respiratory Medicine
  • Recognition of & ability to undertake the initial management of an acutely ill patient
  • Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
  • Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues
  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence based practice, patient safety & clinical quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-informed practice
  • Evidence of involvement in an audit project or quality improvement project
  • Evidence of interest in & experience of teaching
