Job description

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine working as part of a high performing team to deliver excellence in emergency care across a full 24 hours per day, 365 days per year rota.

Successful candidates will have prior Emergency Department experience gained through training rotation(s) or other and be expected to operate independently of direct supervision after a short induction period. Senior support will always be available.

Responsibilities

To be responsible, as part of the Emergency Department team, for all aspects of care for patients from reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients attending the ED.

To supervise the appropriate referral of patients:

  • Non-ED specialist teams (within the Trust or tertiary referral where necessary)
  • General Practice and other community–based services

To ensure, with ED Senior colleagues, that the ED provides an effective service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within national and local standards. This means that working to an agreed rota which covers nights, weekends and bank/public holidays is required.

Working Arrangements

The appointment will be for 40 hours (full time). Holidays are agreed within the team as per the departmental holiday rules and must be applied for at least 6 weeks in advance in line with Trust policy.

There will be an element of training time built into the rota to enable the post holder to undertake mandatory training, participate in audits and maintain clinical competency for registration purposes via CPD etc. This will be an average of 6 hours per week, across the year, excluding annual leave periods. This time is expected to be worked on site in the department.

It is also envisaged that the post holder may undertake occasional ad hoc duties which will be paid separately.

Healthcare Sites

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have full Emergency Departments and critical care units with Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of services and an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. Local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Qualifications

You must be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice.
