Job description

Office-based role in BYD's new state‑of‑the‑art and modern offices in Uxbridge Middlesex West of London (please ensure your daily commute is manageable before applying). The Junior Accountant will work under the guidance of the Finance Manager and Senior Accountant to support daily accounting operations, documentation management, basic reconciliations, and compliance‑related data preparation. The role focuses on accurate transaction processing and providing foundational support for UK financial and tax compliance activities (such as VAT and PAYE), ensuring records are complete, well‑organized, and audit ready.

Responsibilities
  • Routine Accounting & Record Keeping
    • Assist with entering daily journal entries, invoices, and expense claims into the accounting system.
    • Maintain accurate records in the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers under supervision.
    • Support basic bank, vendor, customer, and account‑code reconciliations; flag discrepancies for senior review.
    • Organize, file, and archive accounting vouchers and supporting documentation to ensure audit readiness.
  • Expense, Travel & Reimbursement Processing
    • Process employee expense claims (travel, mileage, subsistence, entertainment, etc.) in line with company policy.
    • Check that expense documentation is complete and properly submitted before posting.
    • Support the Senior Accountant in resolving basic reimbursement queries.
  • Tax & Compliance Assistance
    • Use SAP for bookkeeping and extract accounting data from SAP and Excel working papers to support VAT, PAYE, and other statutory filings.
    • Assist in preparing schedules, listings, and supporting documents required for tax filings and audits.
    • Maintain organized records of correspondence with tax advisors or HMRC under guidance.
  • Reporting & Communication
    • Support the preparation of monthly or quarterly reports by compiling data and performing basic checks.
    • Assist during external audits by preparing requested documentation, system reports, and reconciliations.
    • Ensure timely and accurate responses to routine data requests from Senior management.
  • Internal Control Support
    • Follow internal control procedures and assist with basic checklist‑based control activities.
    • Report any control issues, errors, or unusual transactions to senior team members promptly.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • 3‑5 years of relevant accounting, finance, or bookkeeping experience (internship or placement experience acceptable).
  • Basic familiarity with accounting systems; experience with SAP is an advantage but not mandatory.
  • Awareness of UK accounting and tax concepts (VAT, PAYE) is preferred but not essential.
  • Studying or intending to study professional qualifications (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA) is a plus.
