JR110643 Sister – Charge Nurse – Critical Care
Salary: Up to £43,174 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)
Main duties of the job
- Provide hands‑on clinical care, acting as a senior point of support for complex or deteriorating patients.
- Coordinate daily clinical activity and ensure safe staffing levels, skill mix and continuity of care.
- Promote high standards of nursing practice through supervision, coaching and role modelling.
- Allocate and supervise staff during shifts, ensuring responsibilities are clearly defined and patient needs are met.
- Support the development, appraisal and competency assessment of junior nurses, HCAs and students.
- Contribute to the induction and ongoing development of new staff, ensuring adherence to clinical standards and policies.

Job responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership and Care Delivery – deliver hands‑on care, coordinate activity, and maintain high standards of nursing practice.
- Staff Management – allocate shifts, oversee supervision and facilitate professional development.
- Governance and Patient Safety – maintain accurate documentation, promote compliance with infection control, medication safety, safeguarding, and report incidents.
- Communication and Multidisciplinary Working – liaise with patients, families, consultants and the multidisciplinary team to support collaborative care.
- Service Delivery and Operational Oversight – aid admissions, discharges, patient flow and support the Clinical Services Manager with targets, equipment and resources.
- Professional Development – keep NMC registration active, pursue continuous learning, participate in audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Person Specification – Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
- Significant post‑registration experience in an acute or relevant speciality.
- Experience leading and supervising a clinical team.
- Strong clinical decision‑making, communication and coordination skills.
- Commitment to high standards of patient care and professional development.
- Leadership or management training (or willingness to undertake).
- Experience with audit, service improvement or quality assurance projects.
- Familiarity with private healthcare systems and governance frameworks.
- Excellent communicator, effective problem‑solver, proactive, reliable and adaptable.
