Job description

Ambitious about Autism is looking for a passionate and proactive Job Coach to be based at Whittington Hospital in North London, working as part of our Supported Internship Programme delivered by Ambitious College in partnership with DFN Project SEARCH.

This is an exciting opportunity to support autistic young people to develop workplace skills, build independence and progress towards meaningful, sustained employment within a busy healthcare environment.

Working alongside hospital teams, you will help interns gain valuable experience in the workplace, develop their confidence and discover their strengths, supporting them to take the next steps towards employment.

About the Role

As a Job Coach, you will provide tailored training and on-the-job support to interns placed within Whittington Hospital. You will work closely with interns, hospital staff, parents and carers to help each intern develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to succeed.

You will build positive relationships with teams across the hospital, helping to create an inclusive working environment where autistic young people can learn, contribute and achieve their employment goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualised, on-site job coaching and training to interns across their hospital placements.
  • Support interns to develop practical workplace skills, confidence, independence and professional behaviours.
  • Work collaboratively with Whittington Hospital managers and staff to promote inclusive employment practices and identify opportunities for interns to succeed.
  • Liaise with parents and carers to share progress and discuss individual support needs.
  • Monitor intern progress against agreed outcomes and contribute to reviews, reports and employment planning.
  • Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing and appropriate workplace standards, ensuring hospital policies and procedures are followed.
  • Support interns to develop an understanding of workplace expectations, including communication, teamwork, timekeeping and health and safety.
  • Help interns prepare for and transition into sustained paid employment wherever possible.
About You

You will be passionate about supporting autistic young people and believe in their potential to succeed in the workplace. You will be patient, adaptable and resourceful, with the confidence to work independently in a busy hospital environment while building strong relationships with a range of people.

You will understand that every intern is different and be able to adapt your approach to meet individual needs, providing the right level of support while encouraging independence and celebrating progress.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience supporting young people or adults with additional needs, disabilities or barriers to employment.
  • An understanding of autism and inclusive employment practices, or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with interns, hospital staff, families and colleagues.
  • The ability to identify individual strengths and adapt coaching approaches to support different learning styles and needs.
  • A flexible, solution-focused approach and the ability to respond positively to changing priorities.
  • The confidence to work independently while contributing to a wider, supportive team.
  • An interest in helping young people develop the skills and confidence to move into meaningful, paid employment.
Why Join Us?
  • Make a real difference to the lives of autistic young people and help them work towards greater independence.
  • Work in a unique healthcare setting, supporting interns to gain valuable experience at Whittington Hospital.
  • Be part of a supportive, values-driven organisation committed to creating a world where autistic people can learn, thrive and achieve.
  • Access training, development and ongoing support to help you grow in your role.
  • Play a key part in creating inclusive employment opportunities and helping young people realise their potential.
