Job summary

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Java/Fullstack Developer to join the Investment Banking & Global Capital Markets Technology team in London. You will contribute to design, development, and testing of software solutions that support the Advisory Sales & Distribution businesses within Institutional Securities.

The role requires hands-on Java/Java EE, RESTful services, SQL, and experience with Spring Boot, testing, and agile methods. A Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience are expected.

We’re seeking someone to join our Investment Banking & Global Capital Markets Technology team as a Java / Fullstack Developer in the Advisory Sales & Distribution Super Department to build innovation solutions to support the complex and evolving needs of our businesses in Institutional Securities Group.

This is Software Engineer III position at Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What You'll Do In The Role

• Contribute to the function through a range of operational activities and project tasks, developing an understanding of the business and operating environment.
• Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar) as part of day-to-day coding, testing, and code review processes
• Participate in the design, development, and testing of software applications.
• Collaborate with team members to understand requirements and deliver on software projects.
• Assist in troubleshooting and debugging software issues.
• Learn and apply best practices in software development methodologies.
• Contribute to code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Document technical specifications and system configurations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the software engineering team.
• Engage in training and upskilling activities to enhance technical skills.

What You'll Bring To The Role

• Ability to engage with the broader team, communicate goals, tasks and deliverables in 1-1 and team meetings.
• Demonstrable, hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar) in project delivery
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong hand-on Java EE and core Java experience.
• Experience with web service development, RESTful APIs and Services Oriented Architecture.
• Skills in Object Oriented Design, Design patterns, Architecture and Application Integration.
• Strong knowledge of Databases including design, SQL proficiency.
• Strong experience with frameworks used for development and automated testing like SpringBoot, Junit, BDD etc.
• Experience with Unix/Linux.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and tools.
• At least 5 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
