This is an opportunity to work at the heart of real-time payments infrastructure, helping to deliver mission-critical platforms used by some of the world's largest financial institutions.

We're hiring on behalf of a leading payments consultancy that designs and delivers event-driven payment platforms for Tier 1 banks across the UK and internationally.

You’ll join a highly skilled engineering team responsible for building and enhancing low-latency, event-driven payment systems capable of processing millions of transactions every day.

Working as a senior individual contributor, you’ll collaborate with architects, engineers and client teams to design and deliver robust, scalable software that powers real-time payment processing.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop high-performance Java applications for real-time payment processing.
  • Build scalable, event-driven microservices using modern Java technologies.
  • Develop asynchronous, message-driven systems with a strong focus on resilience and performance.
  • Design clean, maintainable APIs and distributed system architectures.
  • Work closely with architects, product teams and client stakeholders to deliver complex technical solutions.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews and engineering best practices.
  • Operate within Agile (Scrum/Kanban) delivery teams.
What We’re Looking For

You’ll be someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and building highly resilient distributed systems.

We’re particularly interested in engineers with:

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications with Java 11+ (ideally Java 17+).
  • Experience building scalable Spring Boot microservices.
  • Strong experience/understanding of payments.
  • Commercial experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, JMS or Akka.
  • Experience with TDD/BDD and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Experience working with NoSQL databases, ideally MongoDB.
What’s On Offer
  • £90,000 - £115,000 basic salary (DOE)
  • 20% annual bonus
  • Hybrid working (1 day per week in London)
  • Opportunity to work on business-critical payment platforms used globally.
