Job summary

Hastings Direct, a digital insurance provider in the UK, is seeking an IT Developer to join our agile team. You will write and modify software for enterprise systems, contribute to testing, and help implement regulatory updates while collaborating in scrum ceremonies.

Ideally you have 2+ years' Java/JVM/Spring experience, familiarity with GitHub, REST/SOAP, and a mindset for TDD/BDD. This full-time role offers hybrid working in London, Leicester, or Bexhill and a strong development path.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of practical experience as an IT Developer in an agile team.
• Experience of Java/JVM/Spring-based languages.
• OOA/OD experience.
• Experience with GitHub.
• Experience with SOAP, REST, JSON, XML, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Knowledge of a test-driven approach, including exposure to TDD or BDD would be an advantage.
• Desirable: Spring Boot/microservices.
• Desirable: experience with relational databases and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Write and modify software to agreed standards with direction from experienced team members.
• Conduct testing and debugging of code, correct errors, and re-test to achieve error-free results.
• Document work in accordance with agreed internal standards, including unit test coverage, and participate in reviews of our own work.
• Communicate effectively with the team and participate in scrum meetings and design reviews.
• Apply demonstrable analysis and problem-solving skills, adopting a rational and logical approach.
• Use analysis and interpretation of relational databases to support impact analysis and error identification.
• Work on our core systems for policy administration and claims handling.
• Develop new features and functionality to meet evolving business needs.
• Implement mandatory and regulatory changes, including IPT updates and reporting requirements for regulatory bodies.
• Help integrate new suppliers and systems as we continue to enhance our workflows.
• Learn and work with Guidewire to support our development work.

• Object-oriented analysis and design experience.
• Experience using source management software such as GitHub.
