Qualifications

JOB DESCRIPTION

PROGRESS RAIL SERVICES UK is seeking a skilled Systems Administrator to manage and maintain our infrastructure systems and services. As part of our global IT team, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of critical technology platforms.

LOCATION & SALARY

SANDIACRE, NG10 5AN (ONSITE) – COMPETITIVE SALARY

THE ROLE
  • Prioritise and escape business‑critical issues to the appropriate global technical teams.
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Plan, design, deploy, and upgrade infrastructure systems and services.
  • Develop, publish, and enforce IT standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain and support local, global, and cloud‑based applications and services.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot Microsoft operating systems and environments.
  • Monitor and manage Active Directory services.
  • Procure, configure, and install new servers and related hardware.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance, system checks, and security configurations for existing systems.
  • Ensure successful backups and monitor backup processes.
  • Resolve technical issues, including testing, implementing workarounds, and recommending equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of hardware and software resources.
  • Provide technical support both remotely and on‑site.
  • Deliver emergency on‑call support when required.
  • Manage warranty claims and exchanges for hardware.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Update tickets accurately and promptly in the company tracking system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
THE CANDIDATE
  • Hands‑on experience with VMware vCenter Management (7.0 or later)
  • Strong knowledge of Windows desktop OS
  • Windows Server administration (2012–2022)
  • Office 365 management
  • File storage security and access control
  • Proven organisational and communication skills
  • Customer service and interaction experience
  • Ability to develop and improve system monitoring and notification processes
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance (training provided)
  • Willingness to perform patching and system maintenance outside normal hours
  • Experience with Incident, Request, and Change control processes
  • Basic networking knowledge (VLAN, DHCP, DNS, UDP/TCP, ports)
  • Effective communication skills for escalating issues to global technical teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
