Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Services Officer (2nd Line Support) to join the team on a full time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £24,834 - £30,012 per annum DOE.

We are a high‑achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

About the role

As the IT Services Officer (2nd Line Support), you will provide hardware and software support for users of the College’s information technology systems; to ensure that staff and students receive the best possible support in accordance with College policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting 1st line support in the operating of the IT Services Helpdesk and logging of all requests in the helpdesk system.
  • Providing 2nd line support for staff and students experiencing problems with any operating systems or applications installed on their workstations including AV equipment, if unable to resolve, escalating to 3rd line support.
  • Ensuring that the hardware database holds accurate and up to date details of each workstation’s hardware configuration and providing reports on request.
  • Assisting in the installation or upgrade of computer hardware, software and network devices, ensuring that they are secure, up to date and configured correctly.
  • Performing fault diagnosis and testing of hardware and network cables and making repairs where possible.
  • Participating in the organisation and implementation of regular maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Taking effective and timely action in the event of any breach in workstation or network security, whether caused by the actions of an individual or by a computer virus, and reporting it to the IT Services Manager immediately.
  • Joining with other members of the IT Services team in arranging, agreeing and participating in a working rota to ensure that an acceptable level of support is available for evening, weekend and out of normal term IT activities.

  • Current experience in supporting Apple Mac & PC based systems.
  • The ability to follow section procedures systematically.
  • The ability to work with initiative.
  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of customer care and support.
