Job summary

The Francis Crick Institute in London is seeking an IT Project Manager/Portfolio Analyst to lead a portfolio of technology projects within the IT Office. You will manage stakeholder relationships, track progress, and ensure delivery against business priorities.

This full-time, hybrid role requires office presence in St Pancras three days a week and occasional travel; salary starts from £55,800 with benefits and is dependent on skills and experience.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Project Manager delivering technical and business change projects.
• Create and maintain project lifecycle documents (definition, plans, RAID, closure).
• Work on multiple projects concurrently with varying size and complexity.
• Understanding of identity management, software development lifecycle.
• Experience with matrix management of cross-functional IT and non-IT teams.
• Familiarity with IT change processes (ITIL) in project delivery.

We offer a flexible working model, a hybrid of office (based in St Pancras, London) and home working. As this role is stakeholder facing, there will be an expectation to attend the office 3 times a week, or more, as required.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world's leading research Institutes at a crucial time in its evolution, and play a definitive role in shaping it for the future. The Information Technology Office (ITO) within The Francis Crick Institute is responsible for the implementation and operation of all IT functions which manage the running of the institute and enablement of science, along with the publication and library services provided to scientists. Within ITO, the Design and Delivery team sits at the centre of Crick people, process and technology to ensure a portfolio of technology projects are scoped, designed and deployed in the best way to deliver business outcomes, in line with Crick Strategy. You will be responsible for the management of a number of ITO projects across Science and Operations functions, leading on all aspects of the project lifecycle. This delivery focused role will work across the Crick Science and Operations, to ensure timely implementation of technology outcomes. This role suits a self‑starter who can take ownership of multiple projects concurrently, identifying and unblocking issues as appropriate, collaborating with technical and non‑technical stakeholders to drive the project forward. Additionally, you will support the prioritisation, planning and tracking of a wider portfolio of projects within ITO, managed currently by other ITO team leads. This involves gathering and analysing project information so that the status of the portfolio is transparent and any required interventions can be identified and actioned.

What you will be doing

• Delivery of a broad range of ITO projects, covering different technologies
• Working with project stakeholders, keeping them engaged and informed through appropriate collaboration, reporting and governance channels
• Managing third‑party vendors and system implementation partners where required
• Managing the ITO Project pipeline, working with stakeholders and technical teams across ITO to track and prioritise a portfolio of projects, including plans, resources and forecasts

About you

• Demonstrate previous experience of working as a Project manager, managing technical and business change projects
• Create and maintain project lifecycle documents according to need e.g. project definition, project plans, milestone tracking, RAID logs, project closure, lessons learned
• Work on multiple projects concurrently, varying in size and complexity
• Need a good understanding of technical concepts e.g. identity management, software development, technical infrastructure
• Experience of matrix‑managing cross‑functional project teams (IT and non‑IT)
• Working with and implementing recognised IT change process, e.g. ITIL and software development lifecycle
