Job description

Our IT Projects Team is integral in delivering the upgrades and implementation of measures which make a massive impact on our two twin missions: Keeping Britain Trading and Enabling The Energy Transition. One of the recent projects we’ve initiated is the transfer of our Computerised Maintenance System from Mainsaver to SAP – currently in the discovery phase. We are looking to recruit a Project Manager to initially deliver this project before moving onto other projects within the business.

Ideally you’ll have a SAP background, be a hands‑on project manager with first‑class stakeholder engagement ability, and experience of delivering complex IT projects. Base location should be Humber or Southampton with occasional travel to our 21 ports as required.

Why should you make ABP your first port of call?
  • Have the chance to make a difference in a business critical to UK trade.
  • Work within an exciting, innovative, growing business.
  • Thrive in an inclusive environment where every individual can be themselves and feel respected.
  • Receive a competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Get support for training, personal development and further education.
  • Benefit from support and engagement through dedicated management and leadership.
Accountabilities of role
  • Define plans for large projects, communicating complex schedules clearly and concisely to project team and stakeholders.
  • Define financial schedules for large projects, identifying and mitigating potential risks and issues regarding the business case with support from peers.
  • Communicate project cost‑benefit analyses to senior client stakeholders in an engaging format to achieve their buy‑in.
  • Build business cases for significant expenditures or headcount requisitions.
  • Adhere to organisational operating framework processes and practices.
  • Identify potential project risks before they arise throughout large projects and update project issue log and risk register, proposing feasible mitigation suggestions for each risk.
  • Confidently address large audiences, relaying information clearly.
Skills & Experience
  • Broad project management experience and a deep understanding and ability to apply available project management standards, tools and techniques to achieve project objectives.
  • Track record of delivering complex technology projects to scope, time and budget.
  • Experience in team leadership, including motivation and direction of project team members.
  • Ability to cope with uncertainty, conflict and change; flexible, persistent and with well‑developed creative problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, varying your approach to meet the needs of different stakeholders and situations.
  • Foster a culture of collaborative working and transparency both within the team and with external stakeholders, especially the customer.
  • Track record of production of accurate and concise project deliverables, structured in an appropriate business format.
  • Track record of use and promotion of formal methodology and tools within project teams (Prince2 preferred).
  • Ability to manage 3rd‑party delivery.
  • Experience of SAP‑based projects is strongly preferred.

We offer a competitive salary, contributory pension from day one (starting at 3% employee contribution with 5% company match), private healthcare, access to our Employee Assistance Programme, 26 days annual leave (plus bank holidays and the option to purchase additional days), and a wide range of discounts and cashback with high‑street and online retailers.

Closing date for applications is 1 March. A 2‑stage interview process will follow.
