The role covers network, server, virtualisation, monitoring and security-related infrastructure. It combines project delivery with practical operational support for reference and live environments, including third-line support for transitioned infrastructure. Delivery will follow Agile ways of working and established configuration and change-management processes.

Role is Farnborough based (min 3 days on site) with travel to Malvern and Scotland on a regular basis.

  • Support reference and live environments during project delivery and provide third-line support for transitioned infrastructure.

  • Apply engineering good practice for configuration management, change control and technical assurance.

  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation to support installation, operation, support and project delivery.

  • Investigate infrastructure faults and performance issues, identify root causes and implement appropriate resolutions.

  • Share knowledge across the team and contribute to the development of cross-team operational support capability.

  • Work collaboratively within Agile delivery teams and engage effectively with engineering, project and customer stakeholders.

  • Travel to customer and project sites when required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • College diploma, university degree or equivalent practical experience in IT, computing, networking, engineering or a related discipline.

  • UK nationality is preferred due to the nature of the programme and its security requirements.

Desirable

  • Relevant Microsoft, VMware or networking certification.

  • CCNA-level networking knowledge or an equivalent industry certification.

  • Current UK Security Clearance.

Essential skills

  • Good understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure and secure infrastructure principles.

  • Networking knowledge at approximately CCNA level.

  • Understanding of information security principles and secure configuration practices.

  • Understanding of configuration management and controlled infrastructure change.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.

  • Ability to self-initiate, manage priorities and deliver with limited supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new infrastructure technologies and processes.

  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy principles relevant to IT infrastructure.

Experience

Required experience

  • Installing, configuring, supporting or upgrading IT infrastructure.

  • Supporting virtualised server environments and associated network services.

  • Working with Windows Server infrastructure.

  • Monitoring, diagnosing and resolving infrastructure issues.

  • Producing technical documentation and following formal change and configuration processes.

  • Providing infrastructure support within project delivery or operational environments.

  • Working with technical and non-technical stakeholders to progress delivery and resolve issues.

  • Hands-on experience with VMware virtualised environments.

  • Experience administering Windows Server environments.

  • Experience monitoring infrastructure using SolarWinds or a comparable monitoring platform.

Desirable experience

  • Designing and implementing new computing infrastructure.

  • Supporting infrastructure with enhanced security requirements.

  • Working across reference, test and live environments.

  • Defence, maritime, test and evaluation, or other safety/security-conscious programmes.

  • Supporting geographically dispersed sites and travelling to customer locations.

  • Experience working in an Agile environment using Scrum methods.

  • Experience using Jira and Confluence.

  • Experience supporting infrastructure within defence, government or another regulated environment.

  • Experience providing third-line operational support for live services.
