A global energy trading company is looking for a Short Term Trader to manage and optimise their renewables portfolio in the UK. The role involves trading in the short-term markets, utilising automated systems, and implementing risk management strategies. Candidates should have a background in trading and strong quantitative skills, along with a relevant degree. This position offers competitive compensation and emphasizes mentorship for junior traders.
Shell Trading integrates a worldwide trading network with an unsurpassed global portfolio in crude oil, refined products, natural gas, electrical power, and chemicals and has larger locations in London, Houston, Calgary, Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, and Barbados. Shell Trading is one of the world largest energy traders and is a key segment of the Shell portfolio.
The UK Power Short Term Trading desk forms part of the European Power trading organisation. The Short Term Trader is part of a team which is responsible for supporting the commercial and operational management of SE‑EA (Shell Energy Europe & Africa)’s power activities in the UK. The SE‑EA power portfolio is an industry leading mix of remotely operated generation assets, flexible renewable generation and algorithmically controlled battery storage assets. The UK Power Short Term Trading Team was the first team ever to control aggregated generation units in the GB's balancing mechanism via the use of algorithms. The team continues to be the market leader in terms of short‑term optimisation of physical assets.
This role would be focused on trading our renewables portfolio and taking spec positions to maximise the P&L. You would also have exposure to our battery and thermal portfolio, working closely with the 24/7 shift team (the role itself does not involve nights). It also provides opportunities to trade interconnectors/related continental markets.
After you submit your application, you will receive an email from Shell providing a link to an online assessment (HireVue) that is a mandatory part of the process and has a validity period - please check your spam/junk mailbox if you do not see the email. Once completed, your application will be reviewed to determine next steps. Thank you for your interest in Shell.
Shell UK remains one of the North Sea's biggest producers, supplying around 10% of the UK's total oil and gas needs. But perhaps the most recognisable face of Shell in the UK is our network of over 1,000 Shell‑branded service stations.
In the years ahead, as the UK looks to strengthen energy security and deliver its 2050 net‑zero goal, Shell UK aims to play a crucial role. We aim to be a major investor in the UK energy system by helping our customers decarbonise with a focus on transport and industry.
