Job summary

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking either a Band 6 Interpersonal Therapist or a Band 5 Trainee IPT to join the Lincoln Talking Therapies service. The role includes managing a clinical caseload, receiving supervision, and delivering Interpersonal Therapy within a multidisciplinary team in Lincoln with potential coverage at other bases as needed.

The Trainee post provides funded IPT training starting November 2026 with progression to Band 6 on successful completion.

Qualifications

  • Counselling qualification to Level 5 (minimum).
  • Registration and accreditation with a core professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP).

Responsibilities

  • Hold a clinical caseload and provide Interpersonal Therapy within a MDT.
  • Deliver Interpersonal Therapy and participate in clinical supervision.

Job summary

Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (LPFT) delivers an NHS Talking Therapies service. An opportunity has arisen for either a qualified Interpersonal Therapist Band 6 or a Trainee Interpersonal Therapist Band 5 to join the Lincolnshire Talking Therapies service based in Lincoln although you may also be required to cover alternative bases to meet service need. The Service provides evidence-based interventions within a stepped care model, treating people with mild to moderate common mental health problems. The Trainee Interpersonal Practitioner (Band 5) will be provided with the appropriate IPT training starting November 2026 with the expectation of successfully completing the course and requirements to pass. Once successfully completed training you would move to a Band 6.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to work within a team environment and be thoroughly conversant with the use of clinical systems.

The Band 5 & 6 Interpersonal Therapist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing Interpersonal Therapy. The post holder will be expected to hold a clinical caseload and will be provided with clinical supervision.

To acquire the band 5 trainee post you must hold the relevant qualifications to gain a funded training place. Please ensure you meet the training provider's entry criteria before applying. As follows:

Evidence of completing a course of study in a model of psychological therapy

A minimum of two years of post-qualification experience delivering psychological therapy

At least one of the following:

  • IAPT specified counselling or psychotherapy accreditation
  • Accredited BABCP or HCPC

  • Ability to undertake psychological assessments of service users referred to the service. To include identification of the service users problem, comprehensive risk, assessment and identification of goals for therapy.
  • Ability to make decisions on suitability of new referrals adhering to referral protocols.
  • To be able to deliver group or individual interventions in line with the organisation's requirements.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge and understanding of all relevant policies.
  • Understanding of common mental health problems and of current approaches in treatment e.g NICE guidelines.
  • Demonstrate an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
  • Awareness of adult and child safeguarding requirements
  • Good written and communication skills
Desirable
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.
