The New York Times is looking for a new International Accountant to join the Finance team, based in London. As an International Accountant, you will play a key role within The New York Times International Finance team. This position supports financial accounting and statutory reporting across multiple entities in the EMEA, AMER, and APAC regions. The ideal candidate is flexible, detail-oriented, and driven to maintain high standards of accuracy in a high-performing, fast-paced environment.


This is a hybrid position based in London and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. The role will report to the Associate Director, International Finance.


Main responsibilities:


  • Provide general accounting, month-end, year-end, and statutory preparation support for legal entities and international bureaus (including the Netherlands, Germany, Egypt, Mexico, and others).

  • Manage FX revaluations, currency translation processes, intercompany chargebacks, and cost-plus billings between domestic and international entities.

  • Perform monthly analytical reviews on General Ledger (GL) accounts, investigating variances, unusual trends, and balance validity.

  • Apply proper accounting standards to new financial transactions and record appropriate GL journal entries.

  • Partner with operational managers and directors to determine required month-end accruals and adjustments.

  • Support international business units by resolving GL inquiries, navigating Workday system matters, and preparing ad-hoc financial analytics.

  • Maintain comprehensive accounting documentation and enforce strong internal controls.

  • Support the international payroll team in managing local payrolls and requirements.


General Accounting & Business Support (50%)



  • Reconcile vendor invoices and prepare outgoing intercompany billings from the head office to reporting units.

  • Perform monthly corporate credit card reconciliations and record department wire payment journals.

  • Prepare and route international payment requests for approval and processing.

  • Conduct annual reviews of entity financial statements for compliance and accuracy.

  • Support corporate Income Tax Return filings by compiling data across local ledgers, head office P&Ls, and balance sheet transactions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Strong technical accounting baseline with high accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with Workday or Treasury/Banking operations is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize critical tasks, and thrive in an evolving global environment.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with cross-functional and regional teams.
