Job summary

A UK-based construction consultancy is seeking a Fire Engineer to conduct comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments and advise on fire safety compliance in both existing and new schemes. This role involves leading a growing team and liaising with various stakeholders, including clients and contractors. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years PQE and be adept at advising on cost-effective fire safety solutions. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package offered.

Qualifications

Job description
Role

Complete internal and external Fire Risk Assessments both visual and fully intrusive. Advise clients on fire safety compliance within existing and new build schemes.

Duties

Work with and lead aspects of a growing team, reporting directly to Delivery Director.

Experience
  • Minimum 2 years PQE or 5 years if competencies based
  • External Wall Risk Assessments
  • Compartmentation Surveys and retrospective fire strategies
  • Large and small refurbishment and recladding projects
  • Fire Protection Work
  • MIFire E
  • MIFSM
  • Membership with CABE, IFSM or similar desired
Skills, Knowledge and Understanding
  • Liaise closely with Clients, Contractors, Developers, Clerk of Works and other key stakeholders.
  • Undertake Risk Assessments in line with current legislation.
  • Advise clients of pragmatic, cost-effective solutions to mitigate risk where possible.
  • Assist in the growth, development and structure of a small team, drawing upon team leadership skills and experience.

General
  • Comply with, or improve upon, the Company’s Key Performance Indicators.
  • Working with and developing a Quality Management System. Report on a regular basis on status of projects and update Fee Projections.
  • Assist the Director in Charge with Business Development, cultivating new and existing Clients to promote our Building Surveying service offering.
Fire Engineering
  • Assist the client in RAG assessing their stock to understand their potential liabilities.
  • Review information relating to fire safety that the client has accrued for their buildings to date and advise them of its suitability.
  • Conduct Fire Risk Assessments both internally and externally in-line with current industry guidance and compile a detailed report.
  • Peer review reports from other Fire Engineers where requested.
  • Work with the project team to produce cost-effective, pragmatic remedial solutions where possible.
  • Attend client / resident meetings when required to explain reports that have been issued and the implications of the findings.
Remedial Works
  • Work with the project team to compile the ER’s.
  • Peer review the contractors proposals.
  • Liaise closely with the clerk of works and the contractor and carry out compliance checks of the works as they progress.
  • Attend site progress meetings when required.

Salary: £75,000 to £85,000 per annum
