Job description

Civic is a team of system thinkers in the built environment, creating positive impact for people, places and the planet.

We want our work to have a positive impact on the environment — helping people to live healthier, happier lives while respecting natural limits. We build without destroying, explore without exploiting, and seek to reuse rather than just consume. Above all, we listen, learn, and aim to create a lasting legacy.

Thriving together, today we have a team of over 200 members working across the UK, all united by our creative belief, bringing art and science together to solve problems. Our award-winning practice has studios in Manchester, London, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dublin.

As an Intermediate/Design Engineer, you will take an active role in the delivery of a variety of building projects across the UK, across a range of sectors including residential, education, commercial development, leisure, net zero/low carbon and regeneration. You will have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts with a variety of engineering and consultancy skills to provide integrated coordinated designs with high profile private and public-sector clients and collaborators within an award winning practice.

Day-to-day task and expectations
  • Provide engineering discipline design, analysis, calculation and drawing input
  • Undertaking engineering design and analysis while being supervised by others, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and communication systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Identifying problems and opportunities, assessing and resolving problems using qualitative and quantitative measures, while being supervised by others
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, and risk assessments for proposed designs
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders, including architects, structural engineers, and contractors, to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly
  • Input into the production of high quality written reports on a range of projects
  • Preparation, presentation and self-checking of technical data, drawings and tenders, under the supervision of others and taking part in reviews by others of your work
  • Use of industry standard analysis and calculation software
  • Being part of internal reviews
  • Self-checking and checking others’ work
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations, such as IEEE, NEC, IEC, and local building codes.
  • Compliance with the duties of Designer under the CDM Regulations 2015
  • Compliance with the practice QMS, including self-checking
  • Communicate clearly and openly internally and externally with peers and clients
  • Manage your own project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively

This is an opportunity to join a growing Building Services MEP team and contribute to the delivery of well-coordinated, sustainable and technically robust projects. We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised and keen to develop their electrical engineering capability within a collaborative engineering environment.

Is this you?

You’ll be an experienced electrical engineer with a good understanding of Building Services MEP and a keen eye for technical detail. Collaborative, proactive and organised, you’ll enjoy working closely with engineers and wider design teams to produce accurate, coordinated and well-presented designs and models.

With a helpful and positive approach, you’ll thrive within an innovative practice that is committed to sustainable design and making a positive impact on the built environment.
