Job summary

Taylor Root is partnering with a fast-growing technology business to recruit an Interim Senior Legal Counsel in Cambridge. This is a broad, hands-on role leading complex commercial transactions and advising senior stakeholders across R&D and other technical functions.

You will own high-value contracts, IP licensing, and strategic partnerships while balancing legal risk with commercial aims. The position is 6 months initially, with potential extension, hybrid working 2–3 days in the office.

Qualifications

• 6+ years PQE or equivalent
• Strong commercial contracts experience gained in-house
• Track record of owning complex high-value transactions
• Excellent senior stakeholder management skills
• Commercial, solutions-focused approach with quick judgement calls
• Experience in technology, science, innovation, engineering, R&D-heavy environment beneficial

We are working with a really exciting high-growth technology business to find an experienced Interim Senior Legal Counsel to join its legal team during a period of significant growth and international expansion.

The role

This is a broad, hands-on senior legal counsel and highly commercial position where you will:

• Lead on complex and high-value commercial transactions from negotiation through to completion
• Advise senior stakeholders, particularly across R&D and other technical functions
• Support strategic partnerships, commercial arrangements, IP licensing and high-value customer and supplier contracts
• Provide pragmatic advice, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives
• Support wider strategic, legal and compliance projects as the business continues to scale internationally
• Have the autonomy to take ownership of matters and constructively challenge senior stakeholders where appropriate

About you

We are looking for a confident and pragmatic commercial lawyer who can operate autonomously in a fast-moving and fast growing environment.

You are likely to have:

• 6+ years’ PQE, or equivalent experience
• Strong commercial contracts experience gained in-house
• A track record of owning complex, high-value transactions
• Excellent senior stakeholder management skills
• A commercial, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to make judgement calls at pace
• Experience within technology, science, innovation, engineering, research or another IP/R&D-heavy environment would be beneficial, but isn’t essential

The details

• Location: Cambridge
• Hybrid: Ideally 2-3 days per week in the office, with 2 days is workable
• Duration: 6 months initially, with good potential for extension
• Start: ASAP / short notice
• Salary: Highly competitive day rate and salary on offer
• Engagement: FTC or day-rate basis (client is open minded)
• IR35: Inside IR35 for day-rate contractors
