We are seeking an Interim PMO Lead on a 12 month contract to design, embed, and oversee a new Project Management Office (PMO) that will underpin complex change activity across the organisation.

Reporting to the Director of Performance & Technology, the Interim PMO Lead will play a critical leadership role in shaping how projects are governed, delivered, and monitored across the organisation. You will build and embed a robust PMO function that ensures consistency, clarity, and confidence in the delivery of transformation initiatives.

Working closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, you will lead on the creation of effective governance structures, risk management processes, reporting frameworks, and performance dashboards. This is a highly influential post that will help the organisation navigate change, maximise impact, and embed project management best practice at every level.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments, brings strong systems-thinking capability, and enjoys building organisational capacity. Your work will directly strengthen outcomes for young people nationwide.

Hybrid Working

The organisation operates a hybrid working model, with an expectation of colleagues being office-based for approximately 50% of their working week (typically five days across a two-week period). Adjustments will be made for part-time or alternative working pattern arrangements.

About you
  • Significant experience leading or managing a PMO or project governance function
  • A recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APM, Lean Six Sigma)
  • A strong background delivering large-scale organisational transformation
  • Confidence engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills
  • Expertise implementing project management tools, governance models, and reporting frameworks
Key responsibilities
  • Designing and embedding a new PMO structure to support a major organisational transformation programme
  • Developing project oversight mechanisms, reporting tools, and risk management processes
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across finance, procurement, technology, and governance to ensure project alignment with organisational objectives
  • Leading the rollout of project management best practice, including training, capability building, and continuous improvement frameworks
  • Supporting the integration of new technologies and methodologies to enhance project delivery and organisational performance
