Overview

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in North Yorkshire to assist with the appointment of an Interim Head of Finance, on a 6-month contract, highly likely to be extended at client's discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £36.02 - £45.75 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert financial advice, planning, and reporting across the Combined Authority.
  • Lead on financial strategy, performance management, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Oversee service-level agreements for finance-related services and support the development of a unified internal finance function.
  • Deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance and Director of Resources where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes, and reporting.
Essential Requirements
  • Fully qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Proven leadership in senior finance roles, ideally within the public sector or other complex organisations.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including year-end accounts and audit preparation.
  • Demonstrated success managing budgeting cycles, financial strategy, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience with financial systems transformation (Oracle knowledge desirable).
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with confidence to engage at senior levels including elected members.
