A leading UK university is seeking an Interim Academic Director to enhance its leadership in the innovative use of AI in education. This part-time position (0.5FTE) involves reporting to the Director of the Queen Mary Academy and working with the Centre's Steering Group to drive a culture of innovation. This is a significant academic leadership role in the University, reporting into the Director of the Queen Mary Academy. As Interim Academic Director you will work closely and collaboratively with the Centre's Steering Group and with Queen Mary's educational leadership team to shape and deliver an ambitious agenda for the Centre, with specific focus on deliverables for academic year 2025/26.
The post is offered as a part-time (0.5FTE) fixed-term (6 months) secondment. This opportunity is available to current academic staff at Queen Mary employed on either Teaching and Research or Teaching and Scholarship contracts. The postholder will be seconded to the Queen Mary Academy for 50% of their time whilst continuing with their substantive academic role for the remaining 50% of their time.
Using your expertise in the innovative use of Artificial Intelligence in education, you will play a pivotal role in raising the profile of Queen Mary as a leader in the innovative use of AI in education. You will be expected to drive a culture of innovation and inspire a community of experts. To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate leadership in the development and delivery of change and innovation, demonstrating both exceptional influencing skills and the ability to enhance our academic reputation.
The Queen Mary Education Academy offers a comprehensive academic practice development portfolio for staff at all stages of their careers, from teaching assistants through to the professoriate. Located within the Office of the Principal, the Director of the QMA reports to the Chief of Staff and the Vice-Principal (Education) to ensure strategic alignment in our approach. The Academy works closely with Faculty Deans to ensure close academic involvement in programme delivery. The University, has recently established a Centre for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence in Education in order to build on our existing leadership in all these areas. In developing this centre for excellence, as a world leading university, we aim to become known for being at the forefront of the use of AI in education.
