Job description

We are recruiting four experienced Intelligence Officers to join our Intelligence Unit.
We are recruiting for our offices in London, Birmingham and Cardiff. These are full-time hybrid role and will require you to attend the office one to two days per week.
The Intelligence Unit

The Intelligence Unit provides a vital function to our organisation and its primary purpose is to gather, analyse, assess, develop and disseminate (both within the SRA and to external partners) actionable intelligence received from a wide variety of sources in connection with the activities of the profession. Intelligence products from the team are used to progress the work of colleagues in the Investigations Directorate and inform both tactical and strategic senior decision makers.

Our mission

At the heart of what we do through the important work in all of our teams is:

  • upholding public trust and confidence in legal services and
  • delivering work that is timely, efficient, high quality and customer focused.
The Role

As an Intelligence Officer, you will be part of our Intelligence Unit, working alongside Intelligence Analysts, Intelligence Researchers and the Senior Legal & Technical Adviser, reporting to the Intelligence Manager.

A key aspect of this role is acting as the primary point of contact for designated external partner agencies, including law enforcement, government bodies, regulators and professional organisations. You will be responsible for building and maintaining instrumental relationships, leading regular engagement with partners, and facilitating the effective sharing of intelligence to support the SRA's regulatory objectives.

You will manage a portfolio of intelligence casework, including developing intelligence opportunities, gathering and assessing information from a range of sources, and producing high-quality intelligence reports and target profiles to support investigations and decision-making. You will work closely with colleagues across the SRA and external stakeholders to identify emerging risks, coordinate responses to complex and high-profile matters, and ensure intelligence is used effectively to support regulatory and enforcement outcomes.

You will be responsible for handling highly sensitive information in line with the NIM, GDPR, Government Security Classification Policy and SRA requirements, ensuring information is managed lawfully, securely and effectively.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced intelligence professional who enjoys building strategic partnerships, influencing outcomes through collaboration, and using intelligence to support public protection and effective regulation of the legal sector.

What we are looking for
  • A relevant Degree or equivalent such as Intelligence Professionalisation Programme certificate, or extensive recent and relevant experience within an investigative, intelligence or law enforcement background.
  • A detailed understanding of the NIM and ability to handle, process and analyse highly confidential information, including sensitive personally identifiable information.
  • Ability to understand and summarise complex issues and provide succinct summaries to brief the Intelligence Manager and colleagues.
  • Experienced in leading complex investigations and critically analysing information to make recommendations demonstrating risk-based judgment.
  • Experience handling and developing intelligence from multiple sources, including OSINT
  • Experience of applying and interpreting legislation, policy and criteria in decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, inclusive of drafting complex documents to a high standard.
  • Experience of successfully managing competing priorities while managing to also progress multiple investigations in a timely manner.
  • Experience of influencing and constructively challenging internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide coaching and guidance in a positive manner
  • Resilient and able to adapt quickly in an unpredictable and fast-paced environment.
This role requires successful Security Check (SC) clearance. Applicants must either already hold SC clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo the vetting process.
What's in it for you?
  • Protect the public and enforce high professional standards by forging strong relationships with external partners including law enforcement, government and peer regulators.
  • Variety of case holding. No one case is the same.
  • Work collaboratively with other areas of our organisation such as the Legal and Enforcement, Authorisation, Investigations and other Specialist & Proactive teams.
