Job description

The Integration Developer at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust plays a vital role in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of secure, standards‑compliant interfaces between clinical, operational and third‑party systems. Primarily using the Trust’s Rhapsody Integration Engine, you’ll ensure efficient, reliable data exchange to support patient‑centred care delivery.

Northumbria is highly digitally focused and committed to investing in our people. We offer generous holiday entitlement, access to additional training and a range of staff perks, including salary‑sacrifice vehicle leasing and home‑electronics schemes.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country. Leading in innovation and quality – opening a state of the art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England.

Do you want to work in one of the best performing NHS organisations in England? Work in an organisation that supports its staff and focuses on staff experience as much as it does the experience of its patients? You can live and breathe in an area that has the cleanest air, cost effective living, great nightlife, some of the best schools with a wealth of history available on your doorstep. Sound too good to be true? Well it isn’t, this is what you get when you work for Northumbria Healthcare, this is the Northumbria Way! Please read ‘applicant guidance notes’ before submitting your application.

  • Operational Support & Monitoring: Monitor day‑to‑day interface performance; provide on‑call support and coordinate with the Digital Service Desk for planned or unplanned changes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with clinical users, suppliers, and technical teams to gather requirements, manage scope, negotiate priorities, and report on project status.
Technical Expertise
  • Advanced experience with Rhapsody Integration Engine (filters, translators, communication points).
  • In-depth knowledge of HL7 v2.x, FHIR, and NHS messaging frameworks; scripting with JavaScript, XPath, and transformation logic.
  • Proficiency in any one of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle for data querying/auditing.
