Integrated Substance Misuse Service Healthcare Assistant

Job posted: 20 October 2025. Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per year (pro rata). Contract: Permanent, Full-time. Location: HMP Peterborough, Saville Road, PE3 7DP.

Job Summary

NHFT is recruiting a Healthcare Assistant to deliver 24-hour care at HMP Peterborough within the Integrated Substance Misuse Service (ISMS). Duties include clinical assessments, wound care, phlebotomy, ECG, medication rounds, and supporting residents’ recovery and wellbeing.

Main Duties
  • Provide comprehensive, needs‑based health care services to residents with substance misuse issues.
  • Work a range of shifts including day, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Substance Mis‑use Nurse, recovery workers, psychosocial team, secondary mental health team and healthcare services to deliver a trauma‑informed well‑being service.
  • Support resettlement and community links, maintaining recovery pathways post‑release.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Completed Care certificate.
  • Clinical assessments: complete observations, wound care, phlebotomy, ECG.
  • Evidence of team working, triage skills and autonomous working.
  • Aware of medication management; completed medication rounds as a second checker.

Desirable

  • Substance Misuse experience.
  • Awareness of Orange guidelines.
  • Completed RCGP Level 1 for Alcohol dependence and Substance misuse.
