Job summary

Howden is seeking ambitious entrants for its 2027 Personal Lines & Commercial Insurance Apprenticeship in Eastleigh. You’ll join a permanent role from day one while completing an 18-month development programme and earning £23,000.

No prior insurance experience is needed; training covers foundations of insurance, customer service and sales, with assessments, a video interview and an in-person assessment centre. You’ll learn, grow, and start your career with support and benefits.

Ready to earn, learn and launch your career? This is more than your first job. You’ll gain real experience, work towards a recognised Level 3 insurance qualification and build skills that will shape your future.

Our Personal Lines and Commercial team help individuals, families and local businesses find insurance that protects the things that matter most to them. This could include cover for homes, cars and health, as well as insurance that helps businesses manage risks and unexpected events.

You’ll join one of the following teams: Client Servicing, Claims, Insurance Sales or Renewals, where you’ll learn how we support clients throughout their insurance journey.

You’ll join Howden on a permanent role and complete an 18-month development programme designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.

What you’ll be doing?

You will begin with a structured induction before joining our Personal Lines & Commercial team, where you will work alongside experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility.

During the programme, you’ll:

- Learn the foundations of insurance, customer service and sales through hands‑on experience and structured training.

- Support colleagues in finding suitable insurance solutions for new and existing clients.

- Develop your written communication skills by preparing professional client correspondence.

- Build confidence speaking with clients and insurers, helping to answer queries and gather information, both via email and during phone calls.

Who are we looking for?

No insurance experience is needed; we’ll teach you everything you need to know!

You’ll be:

- A final year or recent school, sixth form or college leaver.

- Confident communicating with a wide range of people, including over the phone.

- Resilient, take challenges in your stride and enjoy working in fast paced environments.

- Curious and motivated to learn, with a genuine interest in developing your knowledge and skills.

- Energised by targets and committed to delivering results, even when situations become challenging.

- Someone who enjoys building positive relationships and working with others.

- Able to express your ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.

- Comfortable working with numbers and handling basic numerical information accurately.

- Organised, dependable and able to manage your time and workload effectively.

To be eligible for our apprenticeship, you must:

- Have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.

- Have lived permanently in the UK for the last 3 years.

- Have achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.

- Not already hold a qualification that significantly overlaps with the content of this apprenticeship.

- Pre‑recorded video interview: You will record your answers to a few questions using your phone or laptop, giving you the chance to tell us more about yourself in your own time in a relaxed setting.

- Assessment centre: Our final stage is an in‑person assessment centre at one of our offices. You'll take part in some fun group activities and meet our team in a relaxed setting. This day is all about getting to know you better and for you to see what it's like to be part of Howden and experience our culture. We'll cover all your travel costs for this day, because where you are now, shouldn’t hold back your future!
