Instrumentation Engineer

  • Annual Salary: £45,000+ (depending on experience) + potential 8% annual bonus
  • Location: Dalston, Cumbria
  • Job Type: Full-time, Days based role (Monday-Friday, 38hrs/wk)

The role involves ensuring the reliability and repeatability of instrumentation devices and measurement systems through execution of calibrations, maintenance, and improvement initiatives across the site.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Ensure optimal performance and reliability of service instrumentation and measurement systems across the site while driving improvements.
  • Maintain and accurately track instruments through their lifecycle, from procurement, installation, and commissioning through to repair, decommissioning, and disposal.
  • Respond to high-pressure breakdown scenarios swiftly and safely to minimise downtime and maximise performance of assets.
  • Provide engineering support and guidance on CAPEX projects, producing User Requirement Specifications and supporting the delivery of suitable equipment to site standards.
  • Continuously review and develop instrumentation-related practices, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance by maintaining completeness of data within the instrument database.
  • Plan and execute calibrations autonomously, working closely with Maintenance Planners to ensure meticulous planning and timely execution in accordance with metrology standards.
  • Work with world-leading calibration equipment and technology to deliver highly accurate, reliable, and thoroughly documented calibration results.
  • Maintain precise records using advanced digital calibration management software.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Instrumentation, Electronic, Electrical, or other relevant discipline – Essential.
  • Previous experience in an Instrumentation position – Essential.
  • Knowledge or experience in the field of Automation and control would be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a sense of urgency without compromising on safety or quality.
  • Experience working in hazardous areas would be beneficial.
