About this job

Instrumentation & Control Technician – The Mond Nickel Refinery, Swansea. £36,612 to £38,764 per year, plus overtime, annual bonus, pension.

Contract Type: Contract

Hours: Full time, Monday with flexible Friday, 12‑month fixed term.

  • Friday (flexible) – 37.5 hours with potential to move onto shift work (shift allowance £5,259 per annum pro rata). Full training and long‑term career development.
Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine and emergency electrical and instrumentation maintenance tasks safely and effectively.
  • Respond promptly to plant breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
  • Liaise with the CIE Coordinator regarding technical issues, progress updates, and job completion.
  • Accurately record maintenance work and time in SAP, including follow‑up actions.
  • Work effectively across departments to achieve production and organisational goals.
  • Support the training and guidance of apprentices within the team.
  • Engage in continuous improvement, 5S practices, and problem‑solving activities.
  • Attend regular safety updates, toolbox talks, and departmental meetings.
Qualifications
  • Recognised apprenticeship in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Ideally 5 years relevant industry experience (preferably within heavy industry or refining). Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Strong electrical fault‑finding knowledge is essential.
  • Ability to work shifts and respond to call‑ins when required.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safe working practices and environmental standards.
  • Preferred: HNC qualification and experience using maintenance systems such as SAP.

Base salary: £36,612 rising to £38,764 upon competency sign‑off.
