Job summary

William James Recruitment is recruiting an Inquests Solicitor to join its healthcare team in Birmingham. The role handles inquest and Court of Protection matters for healthcare and public sector clients, with 1+ years PQE.

You will build advocacy skills, manage a caseload with supervision, draft advice, attend meetings, and contribute to business development while working within a collaborative team. Hybrid and flexible working is available.

Inquests Solicitor - Birmingham - Up to £75,000

A well-established UK law firm is looking to recruit an Inquests Solicitor to join its specialist healthcare team in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Inquests Solicitor with 1+ years' PQE to work on a varied caseload of inquest and Court of Protection matters for clients across the healthcare and public sectors.

The role offers exposure to complex and sensitive cases, opportunities to develop advocacy skills and the chance to broaden your experience across healthcare and social care law. You will join a collaborative team with a strong focus on client service, professional development and career progression.

The Role:

• Manage a caseload of inquest and Court of Protection matters with appropriate supervision
• Act primarily for healthcare and public sector clients, with opportunities to work with organisations across the wider health and social care sector
• Undertake advocacy at inquests and other hearings where appropriate
• Assist with Court of Protection matters, including health and welfare cases
• Provide support on wider healthcare and social care matters, including mental health, safeguarding, capacity and welfare issues
• Draft legal advice, correspondence, statements and other case documentation
• Attend client meetings and conferences and assist with preparation for hearings
• Delegate and supervise work undertaken by junior colleagues where appropriate
• Contribute to client training, seminars and business development activities
• Build and maintain strong client relationships
• Ensure matters are managed effectively and in line with agreed deadlines and client requirements

About You:

• A Qualified Solicitor with 1+ years' PQE
• Previous experience in inquests and/or Court of Protection work
• Advocacy and case management experience
• Experience within healthcare, social care or public sector law would be advantageous
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Commercially aware with a strong client-focused approach
• Confident using legal technology and case management systems
• A proactive approach to developing your legal expertise and career
