We’re proud to have achieved Great Place To Work status for three years running - and to be recognised among the UK's Best Workplaces in Manufacturing, Production & Transportation.

But it's about so much more than badges to us, it's about being recognised by our people for the continuous work we do to do better for them.

About Our Opportunity

Innovation is central to the future of recycling, and we're looking for an Innovation Project Engineer to help bring ambitious ideas to life.

Working as part of our Innovation team, you'll support the delivery of collaborative research and development programmes that are shaping the future of sustainable resource recovery. You'll work alongside technical specialists, universities, industry partners and funding bodies across the UK and Europe, helping deliver projects that tackle some of the industry's most complex recycling challenges.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for engineering, science or technology who enjoys managing projects, working with a wide range of stakeholders and making a real contribution to innovation within a global business.

What You Will Be Doing

You'll support the successful delivery of EMR's collaborative research and development portfolio, helping coordinate innovative projects from planning through to completion while ensuring milestones, budgets and deliverables remain on track.

Working closely with our Innovation Project Manager, you'll collaborate with colleagues across the business, academic institutions and external partners to coordinate project activities, organise consortium meetings and support technical and financial reporting for UK and European funded programmes.

You'll monitor project progress, maintain funding and compliance records, track budgets and help ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed objectives and funding requirements. As part of the role, you'll also contribute to the identification of future innovation opportunities by building relationships across the scientific, engineering and recycling communities.

No two projects will be the same, giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of emerging recycling technologies while working across multiple engineering and business disciplines.

About You

You're naturally organised, analytical and motivated by solving problems. Whether your background is in engineering, science, sustainability, business or project management, you enjoy working collaboratively and are comfortable coordinating multiple activities and stakeholders at the same time.

You'll ideally hold a degree in an engineering, scientific or business-related discipline and have experience supporting projects involving multiple stakeholders, budgets and deadlines. An interest in innovation, engineering and sustainable technologies will be key, alongside a willingness to learn and develop your technical understanding of the recycling industry.

You'll be a confident communicator with excellent attention to detail, capable of working independently while building strong relationships across a wide range of internal and external partners. Most importantly, you'll be excited by the opportunity to contribute to projects that are helping shape the future of the circular economy.

Who we are:

Our purpose is to create a future where the materials we use don’t need to be extracted from the planet.

At EMR, we give new life to unwanted materials. Every year, we recycle 10 million tonnes of metals and plastics, saving 19 million tonnes of carbon from entering the Earth’s atmosphere, diverting waste from landfill and protecting resources and habitats.

We couldn’t do any of this without our team members. In return for all they do, we do everything we can to create an environment of belonging, value, support and growth.

We’re proud to have achieved Great Place To Work status, but it’s about so much more than a badge. It’s about being recognised by our people for the continuous work we do to do better for them:

The people who work here are from varied backgrounds and have a variety of beliefs, all of which are accepted and respected.

I’m encouraged to keep a healthy work-life balance so that I can be performing at my best.

I’ve been supported every step of the way in my career progression.

EMR offers a fantastic and inclusive environment; collaboration across the whole business, humility and hard work.

We couldn’t do any of this without our team members. In return for all they do, we do everything we can to create an environment of belonging, value, support and growth, underpinned by our Company values of We Care and We Do.
