Initial Trainer - Training and Development

Job Ref: Dorset P 372572

Pay Rate: £17.97 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 08:00 to 16:00

Contract length: This opening assignment is for 12 months

Location and postcode: Ferndown, Dorset, BH22 9HQ

Office based only as will involve training students who are in the classroom

NPPV2 clearance required, please note, due to Police Criteria you must have lived in the UK for at least the last 5 years continuously. Anything less will not be considered

Candidates must be available for immediate start

In order to apply for this role you will have a recognised training/teaching qualification (e.g., Police Trainer Certificate or equivalent City & Guilds Further Adult Education Certificate, Certificate of Education, Certificate in Training Practice or equivalent NVQ level III in Learning and Development) OR Similar extensive relevant experience together with a commitment and potential to achieve such a qualification.

The role:

We are seeking an Initial Trainer to join a dedicated Learning & Development team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of training and development interventions in order to ensure that the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviour of police officers, staff and other members of the force meet the requirements of the force and priorities.

Key accountabilities:
  • Co-ordinate, prepare annual training schedules, design, develop and deliver training and development across a variety of packages. This may include initial and force training.
  • Deliver training packages as a facilitator/lecturer to meet the demands of the force across other areas on occasion where appropriate.
  • Design and deliver training packages for on and off the job training. To include written materials, classroom sessions and learning exercises, utilising all available technology by adopting innovative and alternative methods of delivery where appropriate.
  • Identify individual training needs of students, as well as the occupational and organisational training needs of the Force (training needs analysis).
  • Meet and discuss with line management and senior police and support staff management, the training needs of individuals, departments and divisions.
  • Accurately and fairly assess the skills and abilities of those undergoing training against relevant National Occupational Standards and Authorised Practice.
Key requirements:
  • A recognised training/teaching qualification (e.g., Police Trainer Certificate or equivalent City & Guilds Further Adult Education Certificate, Certificate of Education, Certificate in Training Practice or equivalent NVQ level III in Learning and Development) OR Similar extensive relevant experience together with a commitment and potential to achieve such a qualification.
  • Able to identify training and development needs and design bespoke training and development interventions according to learning methodologies consistent with the Force guidance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate learning and understanding into the workplace and to liaise and respond to the needs of the organisation.
  • Able to adapt the style of communication to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Sound organisational and planning skills and ability to work towards deadlines to organise and prioritise courses to meet organisational, team and individual needs.
  • Evidence of a methodical problem-solving approach.
  • Able to work effectively as a team member and help to build relationships within that team.
  • IT literate and have experience of MS Word, Excel & Outlook.
