Job Overview

The post holder is a highly specialised nurse working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) as part of the inherited cardiac conditions team. They will function within the multidisciplinary team to provide advice, information and support to adults with inherited channelopathies and cardiomyopathies, share responsibility for implementing the National Service Framework (NSF) for Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death, and work alongside the Lead Consultant Cardiologist to triage referrals appropriately to the Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions (ICC) service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advice, information and support to adults with inherited channelopathies and cardiomyopathies.
  • Share responsibility with identified persons for implementing the NSF for Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death.
  • Work with the ICC team to develop local policies and guidelines, ensuring continuous delivery of high‑quality services.
  • Create and interpret family pedigrees to identify transmission of inherited cardiac disease.
  • Develop and follow protocols for specific cardiac investigations (e.g., drug provocation testing) and organise them to ensure a seamless patient journey from referral to treatment/reassurance.
  • Liaise with DGHs, GPs, the coroner’s office and genetic services to collate and report relevant clinical information, ensuring seamless care for families requiring investigation.
  • Co‑ordinate patient care, acting as a point of contact for patients, their families and the MDT.
  • Provide ongoing support, education and advice to patients and relatives about hereditary cardiac conditions that cause sudden cardiac death.
  • Assist with the drug provocation service.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of ECG, arrhythmic conditions, Holter monitoring, MRI scans and be able to explain findings.
  • Give advice and education about diagnoses and treatments backed with appropriate written and IT information.
  • Comply with all infection control policies and procedures set out in the Trust Infection Control manual.
Essential Requirements
  • Provision of at least one written reference from a professional work email, preferably from your most recent employer.
  • Completion of the Care Certificate (15 standards) for all new starters in clinical, patient‑facing posts (bands 1‑4) within the first six months.
  • Flexibility to work across the Cardiology specialism as required to support services.
  • Ability to work autonomously within the inherited cardiac conditions team, managing a caseload of patients guided by best practice, trust policies, local and national guidelines.
  • Compliance with UKVI sponsorship guidance for Band 2 and 3 posts.
  • Identification of criminal record certificate requirement for Skilled Worker/Health and Care visa applicants where relevant.
