Job summary

MWH Treatment is seeking a Project Design Manager for the @One Alliance, Peterborough, with hybrid working. You will own the design from feasibility to handover, coordinating multi‑disciplinary teams and ensuring designs meet cost, time, quality, and safety targets.

You will lead design delivery, champion BIM workflows, mentor junior staff and maintain strong stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• A degree, HNC or HND in civil engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven design or engineering leadership experience on complex infrastructure or water projects.
• Working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations; prior Principal Designer or risk management exposure.
• Strong multi-disciplinary project delivery experience, ideally in alliances or joint ventures.
• Experience with digital design tools, BIM workflows and integrated design processes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement; ability to influence and lead.
• Proactive, solution‑focused mindset with commitment to quality and continual improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design process for major capital projects from concept to detailed design.
• Ensure design outputs are fully integrated with operational, commercial and environmental goals.
• Act as Principal Designer under CDM, managing design risk and safety at all stages.
• Drive digital design excellence and BIM usage to improve coordination and data integration.
• Challenge and improve technical standards with low‑carbon, cost‑effective solutions.
• Liaise with project leaders and delivery teams to plan design resources.
• Build strong relationships with operators, contractors, regulators and communities.
• Champion quality and safety best practice across the Alliance.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers to grow skills and confidence.
• Promote a one‑team mindset and cross‑discipline collaboration.
