Role

About the role

We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Infrastructure Engineer to help keep our core technology running smoothly across on-premise and cloud environments.

In this role, you’ll support the stability, security and performance of our infrastructure, working closely with teams across technology to deliver reliable services to the business. You’ll play a key part in maintaining critical systems, solving complex problems, and helping us move forward on our digital transformation journey.

This role can be based in Howden or London (hybrid) with some travel to other sites or suppliers when required.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and support IT infrastructure across data centres, cloud platforms and office locations.
  • Monitor systems, troubleshoot incidents and resolve performance issues within agreed SLAs.
  • Apply system updates, patching and hardening to keep our environment secure and compliant.
Capabilities & Focus Areas
  • Cloud & Virtualisation
    • Support hybrid cloud environments across Azure, AWS and on-premise systems.
    • Work with virtualisation and storage platforms to ensure scalability, security and reliability.
  • Automation & Optimisation
    • Use automation and scripting (e.g. PowerShell) to improve efficiency and simplify infrastructure management.
    • Contribute to performance tuning, capacity planning and resource optimisation.
  • Collaboration & Delivery
    • Work closely with network, DevOps, security and application teams to deliver stable infrastructure for production workloads.
    • Support the onboarding and management of third-party services and platforms.
    • Create clear technical documentation, runbooks and operational guides.
  • Projects & Continuous Improvement
    • Act as a technical lead for infrastructure work where required.
    • Research and recommend technologies that improve resilience, performance or cost efficiency.
    • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
About you

  • Significant previous experience administering Linux/Unix and Windows systems.
  • Good understanding of storage, virtualisation, and key infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience working in service-focused or operational IT environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the determination to get to the root of an issue.
  • Clear communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.

It would be great if you also have:

  • Certifications in Linux, VMware or ITIL.
  • Scripting and automation experience.
  • Knowledge of hyperconverged systems such as Nutanix.
  • Experience in agile delivery environments.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Solaris systems
