Job summary

UCL Estates seeks an experienced Information & Data Manager to lead governance and improvement of Estates information. You will develop standards, policies and a governance framework, guiding data ownership and quality across Estates.

The role oversees the Common Data Environment and other key information systems, partnering with project teams and stakeholders to promote data excellence. You will communicate complex data concepts to senior leaders and operational teams, applying ISO 19650

Job description

UCL Estates provides and manages the environment in which students and staff live, learn and work. Through our Estates team, we deliver sustainable facilities, high-quality buildings and essential services that support one of the world's leading universities.

The Estates Information Team is a new team, responsible for delivering the Estates Data Strategy and working closely with stakeholders across the organisation to improve information management, data quality and governance.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Information & Data Manager to lead the management, governance and continuous improvement of Estates information and data. Reporting to the Head of Data & Digital, you will play a key role in ensuring that Estates data and information are managed in line with industry best practice, and comply with university policies and procedures.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining information management standards, policies and governance frameworks while promoting a consistent approach to data ownership, quality and accountability across Estates. Acting as a trusted adviser, you will support and educate data owners, stewards and champions, ensuring information is effectively managed throughout its lifecycle.

The role will oversee the Estates Common Data Environment and other key information systems, support digital and data transformation initiatives, and ensure quality-assured information is captured and handed over throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with project delivery teams, operational colleagues, consultants and contractors, you will champion best practice ininformation management and data governance while helping drive a culture focused on data quality and a single source of truth.

About you

You will be an experienced information and data management professional with a strong understanding of Estates, facilities management or the built environment. You will have hands-on experience with IWMS platforms, Common Data Environments, Business Information Management tools and information management practices, including an understanding of the practical application of ISO 19650 and data governance frameworks.

You will be comfortable developing policies, standards and processes that improve the quality, consistency and accessibility of information across a complex organisation. Strong stakeholder management skills are essential, as you will work with a wide range of colleagues and partners to influence behaviours, establish accountability and embed best practice.

You will bring excellent communication and data storytelling skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into meaningful insights for senior leaders and operational teams. Alongside proven project or programme management experience, you will have a proactive, solutions-focused approach, strong leadership capabilities and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Experience within a large estates environment, knowledge of information management standards, and a track record of delivering data and digital improvements will be key to success in this role. Professional qualifications in information management, construction, facilities management or related disciplines would be advantageous.
