A leading healthcare organization in Liverpool is seeking an Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner. The role involves assessing, auditing, and educating clinical staff on infection control practices while working within a multidisciplinary team. Candidates must possess an RGN certification and relevant experience in infection control. The post holder will have a responsibility to assess, audit and educate clinical and non-clinical staff within the Trust infection control and the policies that govern effective clinical practice. This will be under the supervision and support of the Team Leader. The post holder will be required to give guidance and advice regarding infection prevention and control measures within the Trust.
The post will focus on developing skills and knowledge in clinical staff and ensuring compliance with approved policies on infection control. This is a role that will assist the post holder to develop their nursing skills. The post holder must be committed to working within a multidisciplinary team across all clinical areas of the trust. This role is a pivotal component in ensuring a comprehensive, effective and robust response to maximise and impact upon the national requirement to reduce all health care associated infection.
The role includes many varied activities including receiving laboratory information on patients with infections, patient reviews and patient education, surveillance and audit of practice and the environment, staff education, outbreak management, advising on Estates and refurbishment projects, reviewing clinical products, representing IPC at various forums and meetings and responding to clinical queries from staff and the public.
The post is primarily based on the Royal site, however there may be cross‑site working required to cover on the Aintree site.

Work with clinical staff to ensure evidence-based policies and practice is followed for the management of infection prevention & control and isolated/infected patients.
Provide instruction and training to individuals and groups of staff on all of the above aspects which will require persuasive, motivational, negotiating and reassurance skills to overcome barriers to understanding.
Assist in national & Trust wide, ward and departmental based education and training programmes.
Identify training needs and gaps in knowledge and practice with regards to infection prevention.
Assist in compilation of root cause analysis, action plans and propose changes in areas of poor compliance.
Answer public and patient enquiries regarding risk of infection and its management.
Educate clinical & non-clinical staff to ensure practice is effectively documented and standards are adhered to in relation to intravenous access documentation.
Work in close liaison with medical microbiology & clinical staff on all wards, working creatively and introducing innovative methods in order to integrate infection control into all activities.
Participate actively in observational studies and audit regarding bacteraemia.
Ensure good communication with relevant multidisciplinary members within the Trust about practice.
Be able to assess and identify sensitive situations and manage conflict where a more senior member of the Infection Control Team needs to be involved.
Produce regular reports on the progress of the project for the Infection Control Team.
