Job summary

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in Truro invites applications for a substantive Consultant post within a reimagined infection service. The role is based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and offers opportunities to contribute to inpatient ID, antimicrobial stewardship, and IPAC initiatives.

The post supports teaching and research across the Peninsula Medical School and across the Devon and Cornwall Peninsula pathology network.

Qualifications

• UK specialist registration in one of the specified infection specialties.
• Eligibility for Consultant-level practice in medical microbiology or infectious diseases.
• Flexibility to consider other suitable combinations.

Responsibilities

• Advice on investigation and management of infections.
• Inpatient ID consults.
• Bacteraemia and significant infection rounds.
• Day-to-day support for the diagnostic laboratory.
• IPAC and antimicrobial stewardship support.
• Liaison with health protection teams.
• Out-of-hours cover on a 1:4 rota.
• Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff.
• Contribute to Peninsula Medical School teaching.
• Support specialist MDTs.
