Job summary

Amey is offering an industry placement in Bridges and Civil Structures for 12 months, based in Birmingham or Nottingham. The salary is £26,582 with start in September 2027. You’ll join a team delivering high-profile infrastructure projects across the UK, gaining practical experience from industry experts.

You’ll contribute to structural analysis, design, inspections and asset management while learning through hands-on tasks and mentoring in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing practical, sustainable solutions for bridges and civil structures from investigation to design and asset management.
• Assist in structural analysis, design and assessment calculations.
• Develop carbon and cost estimates, 3D models, drawings and technical documents.
• Assist with bridge inspections, investigations, structural health monitoring, and supervision of works.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of data, analytics and digital technology solutions.

About the Team

Our bridges and civil structures team work across a range of sectors including transportation, water and energy. Our clients include National Highways, Transport Scotland, Network Rail, Welsh Government, Department for Infrastructure, MOW Bahamas, Local Authorities and D&B Contractors. We have multiple long-term contracts and continue to grow and expand into new regions and markets. Recent / ongoing projects include:

• National Highways Scheme Delivery Frameworks
• Severn Bridges Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance
• Network Rail TransPennine Route Upgrade
• ADEPT Live Labs 2 Decarbonisation programme
• Transport for London Infrastructure Improvement Framework

What you’ll be doing

As a Bridges and Civil Structures Placement Student, over the 12 months you will

• Be part of an experienced team, working on some of the most exciting and challenging projects across the UK and internationally.
• Help develop practical, sustainable solutions for bridges and civil structures; from investigation to optioneering, feasibility, concept and detailed design, construction supervision and asset management.
• Assist in structural analysis, design and assessment calculations.
• Develop carbon and cost estimates, 3D models, drawings and technical documents.
• Assist with bridge inspections, investigations, structural health monitoring, and supervision of works
• Contribute to the development and implementation of world-class data, analytics and digital technology solutions.
